The announcement was made during a handover event to the Prime Minister of the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, Owek. Andrew Byakutaaga at the kingdoms palace in Hoima town.

The Empango celebration commemorates the beating of the royal drum (Empango), which was the first ritual performed by the Omukama upon being crowned on the 11th June 1994.

25 years is a significant milestone and as the Kings beer, Pilsner Lager finds it fitting to ensure that the Empango, and cultural celebrations like it, get the full support and recognition they very much deserve, said Edgar Kihumuro, the Brand Manager for Pilsner Lager.

Prime Minister of the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom said, “We truly appreciate the support that we have received from Pilsner Lager and Uganda Breweries. This is a wonderful show of camaraderie that will touch the people of Bunyoro and go a long way towards advancing the theme of the festivities. I call upon all the people of Bunyoro to show up in large numbers so that we can make this silver jubilee one to remember.”

The Empango celebrations have been an annual four-day event on the calendar of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and usually draw up to 2,000,000 people from across Uganda, Africa and the world.

Our forefathers envisioned a society that is united through cultural and traditional values, and Pilsner Lager has risen to the occasion by providing a brand that espouses all those values and contributes to the fun and entertaining side of these ideals,” Kihumuro added.

While making the announcement, Edgar Kihumuro also handed over 50 cases of Pilsner Lager to be consumed during the festivities.
