The Nation Media restructure has continued to assert its presence at NTV with more staff already on their way out of the Serena based station.
According to the information we are getting, three members of the NTV news team are leaving the station.
Shockingly, among the three is NTV head of news desk, Maurice Mugisha.
The other two are; news anchor Josephine Karungi and Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo.
According to our source, Karungi first threatened to stop presenting her weekly show, ‘NTV Perspective With Karungi’, once her demands for a salary increment are not met.
When NTV refused to bow to her pressure, she ended up resigning from both her posts as a news anchor and presenter.
She is now just a few weeks from the station. As for Maurice Mugisha, our source says that when Nation Media’s top bosses in Nairobi ordered for a convergence of their media in Uganda, where employees were to work for all companies, among those who put up a fierce resistance was Maurice.
He argued that there was no need for reporters from sister stations to join NTV for he trusted his team.
However, his bosses had ordered for this convergence as a way of cost cutting. The aim of the convergence was to have a sizeable staff doing work initially handled by a bigger team.
Under this system, NTV’s business desk was to share the same reporters with Daily Monitor, KFM and Dembe FM. The same was to apply to other departments like crime, sports among others.
In fact, some of Dembe FM’s shows had been moved to Spark TV. With the arrival of staff from other sister stations, Maurice was mandated to reduce on his team, something he wasn’t at ease with.
He thus opted to quit the Serena based station. According to the information we are getting, he is set to join UBC TV which is just a few meters away from his current work station.
